Thoma-Holec Design (THD) is looking for an experienced Senior Interior Designer to join our nationally recognized, award-winning team in Phoenix, AZ. Specializing in Senior Living, Active Adult, and Multifamily design, we work on exciting projects across the country that challenge creativity and make a meaningful impact.

We're looking for a confident leader and creative thinker who can take projects from concept through installation, balance design vision with budgets and deadlines, and inspire the designers around them. What You Bring to the Team

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Interior Design or a closely related field.

• Minimum of 10 years of professional experience in commercial interior design, preferably within an established interior design or architecture firm.

• Demonstrated experience in Senior Living or Multifamily design.

• Proven ability to independently lead complex projects from concept through completion.

• Strong technical knowledge of construction documentation, detailing, materials, finishes, and FF&E specifications.

• Experience managing project budgets, schedules, and multidisciplinary teams.

• Excellent communication, presentation, and client relationship skills.

• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities.

• Experience mentoring, supervising, and delegating work to design staff.

• Ability to work full-time, in-office at our Phoenix, Arizona studio.

• Willingness and ability to travel nationally for client meetings, site visits, and project installations.

Bonus Qualifications (Great to Have, Not Required)

• NCIDQ certification.

• Previous experience as a Studio Director, Design Director, or in a comparable leadership position.

• Experience with Senior Living environments, including Independent Living, Assisted Living, and Memory Care.

• Familiarity with accessibility standards, universal design principles, and applicable commercial building codes.

• Experience coordinating FF&E procurement and installation.

• Proficiency in industry-standard design and documentation software.

What You'll Do

Design Leadership & Creative Direction

• Lead multiple interior design projects from initial concept development through construction and final FF&E installation.

• Establish and guide the overall design vision, ensuring each project reflects the client's goals, brand identity, operational needs, and resident experience.

• Develop innovative, functional, and aesthetically compelling design solutions for Senior Living, Active Adult, and Multifamily communities.

• Direct the development of design concepts, space plans, finish selections, specifications, and presentation materials.

• Review design deliverables to maintain quality, consistency, and alignment with project objectives.

Project Management & Client Relationships

• Take ownership of project schedules, budgets, deliverables, and overall design execution.

• Serve as a primary design contact for clients, architects, consultants, contractors, and other project partners.

• Lead client meetings, design presentations, and project coordination discussions with confidence and professionalism.

• Oversee the preparation and coordination of construction documents, specifications, and design details.

• Collaborate with vendors, manufacturers, and product representatives to identify appropriate materials, furnishings, and design solutions.

• Participate in site visits, construction administration, and installations, ensuring the design vision is successfully executed.

• Anticipate challenges, solve problems proactively, and keep projects moving forward.

Team Leadership & Mentorship

• Mentor and support junior and intermediate designers, helping develop their technical knowledge, creative abilities, and professional confidence.

• Delegate responsibilities effectively, providing clear direction and constructive feedback.

• Foster a positive, collaborative environment that encourages accountability, creativity, and professional growth.

• Work closely with firm leadership to support design excellence, efficient workflows, and successful project delivery.
